Fireplaces: Wood Stoves

Wood stoves have a long and honored history both here in America and around the world. They were used for their ability to heat a colonial home, but also because you could prepare your meals on them. Wood stoves today are less prevalent because of central heating, but there are still traditional homes that feature wood stoves in at least one room.
Cooking with Wood Stoves
Cooking with wood stoves is just as easy as cooking on a modern stovetop. The only real difference is the length of time required to prepare your meals. Since the heat from a fire takes longer to transfer into the metal of the stove, you will want to prep your cooking surface a lot sooner than you would on your contemporary stove. Otherwise, you only need to keep the fire alive once you get going, and from then on wood stoves take care of the rest!
Todays wood stoves can be installed into a home easily with the use of modern ducts. Ventilation is required to pull the smoke both from the wood stove and to keep it from spilling into your room. Proper piping is easy to install, and requires little construction effort. You can have the smoke stack exit your home at a right angle, too, which means you dont have to run a stack all the way up the side of your home. You can send it wherever you want within your walls.
Wood stoves are usually box shaped, with all metal construction. They are often cast iron, although todays wood stoves are just as likely to be steel, although steel cools off faster than iron does. They sell for over $500 for the best brand names, but you will get years of use out of one.

Flashlights: Military Flashlight

A military flashlight must not only offer precision lighting, but also must be heavy duty to sustain any condition. Because of these specifications, a flashlight used in the military requires superior craftsmanship. The flashlight, along with other equipment, must be able to guide the user throughout any combat condition.
What Makes a Military Flashlight Special?
An ideal flashlight for military combat should be constructed of sturdy materials. Brands like Surefire and ASP, which are trusted names in military and law enforcement gear, construct military flashlights out of aircraft grade aluminum. Pelican, which makes work flashlights for the toughest jobs, makes its flashlights out of non-corrosive ABS plastic for a lightweight yet safe flashlight. MagLite flashlights, which were used in Operation Desert Storm, have an anodized head to prevent corrosion as well.
The light emitted by a military flashlight must be able to guide soldiers through the toughest terrain. Because of this, manufacturers of these specialty flashlights use only the best, longest lasting bulbs for their flashlights, such as LED bulbs. These bulbs can burn continuously for up to 10 years, and emit a perfect white beam throughout.
A military flashlight also involves special night vision and self defense equipment. Because of this, an infrared light, which can sense heat waves of moving bodies and track enemies, is used at night. For precision aiming, a laser light is attached onto self defense equipment for the best shot possible. Revolutions in military equipments have enabled safe combat.

Flashlights: Outdoor Lantern
21. June 2008
admin
The outdoor lantern has benefited from the invention of the flashlight. Prior to the first portable battery-powered light, lanterns were burned using oil and kerosene. Rather than become extinct, lanterns have evolved from this invention, and are still regarded for their illuminating brightness and classic shape.
Uses of an Outdoor Lantern
After finding new power sources, the outdoor lantern has gained popularity once again. Most recognizably, lanterns are seen at amusement parks, taking on a decorative purpose. The use of battery powered lamps has enabled these lamps to withstand weather conditions.
More commonly, an outdoor lantern can be seen on camping and hiking excursions. Variations on the traditional form have allowed more versatility on trips. Lanterns featuring remotes, longer lasting bulbs, and designs made especially for kids have proven very practical for outdoor activities.
Lanterns are an added feature in the home as well. Rechargeable lanterns and those that collect solar energy provide countless hours of backyard lighting. No matter where your outdoor adventures are, in the backyard or in the forest, an outdoor lantern will be a practical light for your activities.

Flashlights used by police have become trusted household names as well, for their durability and professional quality.
Advantageous Features of a Police Flashlight
